Come see a baker's half-dozen of your favorite Miami poets read each other's poems! Help plan the course of the evening: we'll present the titles of the poems to be read, you decide which to hear when!

The Miami Poetry Collective is officially (mostly) on Summer Break. Look for more Poem Depots, Cent Journals, and other exciting projects in the fall, but for now, remember: "Do not presume we're not working. Doing nothing is the musing of the poet."

Join MPC member and FIU creative writing instructor Nick Vagnoni for "Sensing the Poem," a weekend workshop at The Studios of Key West. We’ll read and discuss a wide variety of poems that engage the senses, and we’ll also spend lots of time writing poems and workshopping our new material. While anchoring a poem in the senses is an essential skill for any beginning poet, more advanced writers will also benefit from this exploration and practice.

Located just down the block from Elizabeth Bishop’s house, The Studios of Key West is a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization founded in 2006 and based at the Historic Key West Armory.

The Poem Depot will be selling original poems, written to order, at The Gala at Java Head Mansion, a benefit to fund the restoration of The Miami Woman's Club. The Miami Poetry Collective teams up with Tigertail once again! This year, Tigertail's Art & Soul will also be raising funds for the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance. Proceeds will help commission artists living in Haiti and the United States. Come support Tigertail and the HCAA, and get an original poem, typed on one of our vintage typewriters!

Zachary Schomburg will present a reading and lead a workshop in Miami as part of the University of Wynwood's Visiting Poet Series. Schomburg is the author of two collections of poetry, The Man Suit (Black Ocean, 2007) and Scary, No Scary (Black Ocean, 2009), as well as co-editor of Octopus Magazine and Octopus Books, both of which he co-founded.

Members of The Miami Poetry Collective will read at The Studio@620, recently named the best community-involved art studio in the Tampa Bay area. Tell your St. Pete/Tampa friends to come out and hear us read our work!

The Miami Poetry Collective goes coast to coast with our first Poem Depot outside of South Florida! We’ll be selling original poems, typed to order on our vintage typewriters, at The Saturday Morning Market in downtown St. Petersburg. The Miami Poetry Collective will sell original poems written on manual typewriters during Wynwood's Second Saturday art walk. All that's required is a suggestion and donation to the publication costs of the Cent Journal Series: A Modern Anthology of Miami Poets. MPC t-shirts will also be available for sale.

David Gewanter will give a public reading in Miami as part of University of Wynwood's Visiting Poet Series. Gewanter's most recent collection is War Bird (Chicago, 2009). His previous collections include Sleep of Reason (Chicago, 2003) and In the Belly (Chicago, 1997). He was also co-editor, along with Frank Birdart, of Robert Lowell: Collected Poems (FSG, 2007). Gewanter currently teaches at Georgetown University.

Need a last minute gift for that special someone? Trying to make an impression on an attractive stranger? Need a cleverly worded "Yes, I'm really breaking up with you on Valentine's Day" note? Stop by the Poem Depot during Second Saturday's Wynwood Art Walk, and the Miami Poetry Collective will hand-craft a Valentine's Day ode, missive, or curse for you on one of our manual typewriters.

Poet Frank Giampietro visits Miami as part of the University of Wynwood's Visiting Poet Series, funded by the John and James L. Knight Foundation. He will read poems from his debut collection Begin Anywhere at Bardot Miami, Saturday, January 30, beginning at 8 p.m. Parking is available behind the building. The entrance is also around back, underneath a red awning.

The MPC will perform a special edition of the Poem Depot at Lucky You!2, an art raffle event at the Bakehouse Art Complex. As usual, MPC members will be writing poems on commission, but we'll also be writing poems about the more than 60 original artworks that will be on sale. Expect other surprises as well.

In its first public performance, the Miami Poetry Collective will read an interlocking series of original poems inspired by Campbell McGrath's "Silt, CO."

University of Wynwood Visiting Poet Melanie Almeder reads from her book, On Dream Street during the opening of There Goes the Neighborhood, an exibition of Miami artists Mary Malm, Brian Reedy, Claudia Scalise, and Tom Virgin. The show explores the idea of “the neighborhood” from divergent perspectives: from displacement and gentrification, to the intimacy of home and family, to physical and human neighborhoods. The show includes works on paper, artists’ books, a painting installation, and a small sculpture.

This reading series features graduate and undergraduate members of the FIU Creative Writing Program and is hosted by famed author and noted explorer Archibald Whistler. Be sure to bring cash however; the Luna Star Cafe doesn't take credit cards.

The Poem Depot makes a special appearance at the yearly kick-off party for Tigertail Productions. Celebrating 30 years in Miami, Tigertail is well-known for their support of the literary arts and for throwing great parties. In addition to the MPC, the night will feature spoken word by Tigertail's Wordspeak Team, music by Boise Bob and His Backyard Band and video by Clifton Childree. Admission and drinks are free.

In celebration of the opening of Gallery Diet's exhibition of the work of Miller and Shellabarger, University of Wynwood will host an open discussion-led by Professor Ana M. Luszczynksa, Ph.D.-of Jacques Derrida's essay on the poetry of Paul Celan, "Rams: Uninterrupted Dialogue-Between Two Infinities, the Poem" (2003), while the artists-Dutes Miller and Stan Shellabarger-do a performance of their work, "Untitled Performace (Pink Tubes)" 2003.

We'll be doing Poem Depot at (((SHAKE))), the weekly party at the Vagabond, recently voted by the Miami New Times as the "Best Weekly Party in Miami". Come out, buy a poem, get low to some dubstep, and celebrate Slim Biscayne's birthday.
